Bob's Discount Furniture sucks ass
[Begin Rant]
For those of us in the Northeast, we are all familiar with Bob's Discount Furniture. You hear him on the radio and tv all the time. Telling us what a great deal we'll be getting on such and such furniture. Yada, yada, yada.
Well, the store sucks. How you might ask? Let me count the ways:
1. Pushy sales people. Bob apparently subscribes to the used car store business model. Only pay the people who are actually selling! That way you can save on labor costs but have a large labor force. Brilliant! As a result, you will find yourself accosted immediately upon entering the store. One time when my wife and I went there, we told the sales associate that we were just looking around and then proceeded to walk to the elevator. Said associate follows us into the elevator and proceeds to hound us like a starving animal. Can you say aaawkwaaaaard. Not only that, but he wasn't that helpful when we actually had questions. Crappy and pushy service. How can you beat that.
2. Bobisms. Bob has this thing. He likes to use his own name as part of everything in his store. You have the bobinizer, the lazy bob, the bobby bear mattress...you get the idea. It's like they think we're 5 year olds.
3. Bob's "Goof Proof" plan. Most other places would just call this a furniture protection plan. Not Bob. This is no ordinary plan, it's his "Goof Proof" plan. Remember those pushy sales people? Well, they push this thing like it's their one ticket to the infinite wonders of heaven. It must add a fair amount to their commission. And if the original sales person doesn't sell it to you, don't worry, when the manager comes over to "double-check" the order, he'll make sure to detail exactly why you should buy the god damn "goof proof". I guess Bob got more than one thing from used car sales business model.
So as you could imagine, we bought a fair amount of furniture from Bob and since the "Goof Proof" was only an extra $200, we figured why the hell not. Let's protect our "investment" in such fine quality furniture. Fast forward 2 years when we try to actually use the furniture protection plan for two things:
1. A rip in the seam of our sofa.
2. A food stain.
If you've made it this far, you can probably already tell where I'm going with this.
For 1, apparently they don't cover rips in the seam of couches. Try as I might, I can't seem to find that exclusion anywhere in the document we've received. Maybe I need to be a lawyer to understand the complex legalise, especially after I saw that they covered rips and tears. Guess not.
And for 2, since the food stain is surrounded by other stains. And these other stains were the result of normal use, well, they can't clean the stain. Because then they'd have to clean the other stains and those stains aren't covered.
That leaves us with a ripped, stained sofa and a useless waste of $200. Not having much other recourse, I took to the blogosphere to warn others. We learned the hard way that this store sucks, you don't have to. Don't ever say I don't do anything for you people.

I hate pushy sales people, especially car salesmen. Nothing will make me leave the lot/store like a guy hounding me like he's trying to seduce me or something.
I guess you learned the lesson about insurance that it doesn't cover the most likely events because if it did the insurance company couldn't stay in business. Secondly, salesmen will push overpriced insurance with a vengeance. If they're pushing it hard, it's overpriced.
Last comment is about "cult of personality". It sounds like this guy has developed a "cult of personality" vibe around his business. That means his substance (product) is lacking or substandard and he's trying to make up for it with FLASH (think televangelists). Don't ever buy into that crap from anybody. See it as a warning sign and go somewhere else.
Silver lining: think of the $200 as an investment in your education - school of hard knocks. Experience (meaning adversity) is really the best educator, if not the most fun. In the long run, this can pay dividends in saving you from making many many other money mistakes if you embrace (instead of ignore) the error and try to learn everything you can from it.
Good luck!

AdamC,
We've learned never to shop at that store again. We've also learned not to buy that crap from stores. It was just such a pain in the ass to go through all that. We kept a meticulous record of our recipt and the original document too, all for naught. Oh well, live and learn like you said.
No offense Frank, but I've been told by my friends with kids, don't bother with nice furniture till they're all at least 12. :-)
I don't believe in extra protection/warranty coverage. I'll wait for a disaster to actually happen.
The one time I bought flight/travel insurance was this past weekend when Ernesto had a chance of canceling my airline flights. And fortunately it didn't!
mapgirl,
That is very prudent advice :)
We've learned that the hard way as well :P
With cars, it used to be the extended warranty and undercoating. For used cars, my favorite one is where the hapless suckers (consumers) buy the heap only to have the motor blow up 3 miles down the road. All the motor oil (actually gear oil) had leaked out because the sawdust they had packed the block with had fallen out. Did our feckless car representative flinch? Not at all.
He said "I am so sorry but if you read the limited warranty the oil is not covered".
I still get most of my furniture from Goodwill stores. I got my last sofa for 5 bucks. When I went to pick it up for some reason there were 3 huge pillows on it that they gave us for free. When I got it home I noticed the price tag on each pillow was 19.99. :)
Go to Bob's. Eat his food. Walk out. Repeat daily.
Well I am so glad that all of you BLOGGERS think you know what your talking about....First off sales people are just trying to do their job which is to sell you the customer furniture. I am sure that if you didnt get attention you would be blogging about that also. As far as the Bobisms..it is HIS store and he put time and effort into this buisness....do you go into a grocery store and blog that they have generic brands with their name on it??? I highly doubt that...As far as the Goof Proof...Bob himself didnt make up this name it is actually a seperate company that does buisness with alot of other furniture stores!! The ripped seams is clearly stated under the NOT COVERED list on the pamphlet you recieved at the time of check out..If you took a moment to call the store at which you bought it they would of told you to call customer service because this would be considered manufacturers defect...And for all of you who just come into the stores to eat the free food maybe you should consider getting a life and maybe a job so you wouldnt have to mooch off of a STORE!!!!! BTW if you are caught doing so you will be promptly escorted to the exit!!!! Kisses Bobs Babe
I also hate dealing with sales people that try to pressure me to buy something and tail me throughout a store. I've finally started buying furniture online, which I should have done a long time ago. I got some great furniture for my kids' rooms. It was cheap, and for ready to assemble furniture, I was really impressed with the quality. So, now I won't hesitate to buy online, as long as I know the company is reputable. At least you can shop anytime and take all the time you need. So, anyways, I don't know anything about Bob's, but check out I Like Furniture.com,
I agree with Lisa. I have started buying furniture online. I can browse and research different furniture and prices with out being pestered by sales people. I have purchased quite a bit from this site www.AandYFurniture.com. I also have never been to Bob's but doesn't sound like I want to!
-By the way Bob's Babe, what are you doing? Blog Stalking? Full time job I would assume!
Wow! You people are unbelieveable. You act like you walk into The Taj Mahal and spend tens of thousands of dollars on furniture and then have issues. This is Bob's Discount Furniture. You get a deal for what you pay for! Bob is a highly respected man and member of the community. The stores are opening left and right at an amazing rate. WHY do you ask? Its a good business and despite the 5% of you that like to come on here and complain when you buy warranties and don't read the fine print (its called taking responsibility for what you sign for) 95% of the customers that deal with Bob's are happy with their experience and their furniture. Bob's is the only company I know of that has such an extensive service warranty on their product. As far as the televangelist comment, Bob's does commercials for what he has to offer- no tricks , no gimmicks. You walk in the store, look at what you are going to be buying , and YOU, as THE CONSUMER, choose to pull out your wallet and make that purchase. Bob is not "brainwashing" you to buy that sofa. We are GROWN UPS_ maybe act like it and start being RESPONSIBLE for our decisions. The Better Business Bureau doesn't back Bob's for nothing. Signed- KLM
I am a student of the Bob's Discount Furniture School of Hard Knocks. They do suck. About a year and a half ago, I was pregnant w/my second child and decided that we needed a larger bed. After seeing all the commercials, I went into Bob's with my husband and son and purchased the Bobby-Bear Euro Top King sized mattress & box spring for $1999. At the time the bed was delivered, the two delivery guys pushed the mattress through my front door, catching the plastic on the door. I made a comment about how I hoped the mattress did not rip....the delivery man assured me it didn't. Two months later, I asked my husband to help lift the mattress to put a new bed skirt on and I noticed a rip in the underside of the mattress. The delivery man flat out lied to me, set up the bed and left the house. I called the customer service # and was advised that they would send out a new mattress right away. They did just that...except this time, the delivery guys put a huge scratch into my ceiling and knocked off some wood trim in the house. They offered to fix it and I told them it was not a problem, my husband could fix it. I was just glad to have a new mattress that wasn't ripped. Fast forward 1 year and 2 months and my mattress is now sagging and extremely lumpy. I too bought the goof proof plan, which doesn't really apply in my situation. I called customer service and asked if I had any options as it just didn't seem right for my $2000 bed was looking as if it was 30 years old. She told me that the bed had "comfort layers" which surrounded your body, but if the mattress had indentations w/o you lying in the bed, that it could be a sign of a manufacturer's defect. She had a technician come out. His name was "Richard" and not only did he get lost coming to my house, he showed up barely speaking English. He brought a level with him which he did not even use. He looked under the bed to discover that the bed frame we bought and that was installed by Bob's delivery men was the wrong frame. Evidently there was support missing from beneath our bed, right where our arses would lay. The man came downstairs, called the customer service desk, told her what he had found, handed me the phone and left w/o saying good bye. The woman on the phone was demeaning. She insisted that by replacing my existing bed frame with the correct one, would solve my problems. I tried explaining that my mattress was crushed down and that an extra support bar across my ass would not rejuvenate my mattress as it was now ruined due to their "goof." I asked for a manager and she could not give me anyone...just more of her kind. I asked who ran the show as I wanted to get a name to file a complaint with and she would not give me any info. I asked what Bob's place was in the business and she advised "Bob was not available..." I have never been one to want to use the C word but it crossed my mind at that time. I will NEVER do business with Bob's again. At this point, I have a new frame coming this week and was told to give it two weeks for the bed to adjust...???? Then if that didn't do the trick, to call and they would send another technician out to look at the mattress again. Has anyone else had this happen? I feel like going to my local Bob's and placing my lumpy mattress in their parking lot for all potential customers to see what happens in a year's time. What a joke this has been. All I got out of this deal was a $2,000 backache!!!!
Hey Bob's Babe, maybe you should get your facts straight. "Goof Proof" came about from a company-wide contest to see who could come up with the most "Bobism" name for the protection plan. As far as generic items at a grocery store, humm, a gallon of Hood milk or a gallon of Stop&Shop,,Milk is milk, you drink it then you piss it out. Name brand sofa, sit on it a year, shows signs of wear, normal. Bob's sofa sit on it a year, busted seams, flattened cushions, creaking frame, get the picture.
Bob's Babe, stop and think about what your selling.
My "mission possible" king size bed has bubbling veneer on side rail...at just over one year old. My bureau is so poorly constructed with plasic drawer guides that I get piles of wood shavings accumulating on my floor. It is criminal this company is allowed to continue to take advantage of those that can afford it the least. Shame on Bob's furniture.
Hey, Bobs Babe. Are you the cute blonde in the TV commercials with the witty sayings, facial expressions and bubbly personality? If so, then I want you (badly). I've been trying to find out your name for months!
I find it pretty amazing that you the people that cannot afford to buy name brand furniture have expectations of purchasing solid gold. Its not BOBS fault you must look for cheap furniture. Its not BOBS fault that most of the complaining customers have never been satisfied with anything you purchased. And if you really think about it you are the people that are making all the employees at BOBS wealthy. Maybe you all should go back to shopping at the store your used to buy from. WALMART AND K-MART..LOOSERS....
I would not recommend BOB's Furniture to anyone!!!! Last summer I decided to buy from that Bastard BOB. Well I was told that EVERY peice of my bedroom set and mattress were on backorder and would not be in for a month. I said ok. The month past and I get another call saying its on an extra delay and it wouldnt be in for another month...
Finally when the furniture did arrive the movers looked like they were straight out of harlem. I heard them swearing and cursing up and down the halls.
The guy to installed the furniture didnt know his elbow from his ass. He damaged the door on the armour and installed the bed incorrectly. I had to call a tech to have him come fix it.
So why on earth did I just decide last week to buy a living room set form these idiots.
First of all the sales people are weasles and if I ever see any of those bastards on the streets they are getting a kick in the teeth.
I ordered a couch and love seat and was innitially told it was going to be on a 2 month backorder and she asked me if I wanted to wait and i laughed and started to walk to leave. She came out to the parking lot and told me she could get it by friday by using apart of someone elses order.
So i decided to buy it...I now regret it. Today is friday the day I am supposed to get my delivery. After clearing out my old living room set to make room for the new one i receive a call today saying that the delivery was cancelled because the idiots called the wrong phone number. I called bobs pissed as hell and spoke with some woman who barely spoke english. She told me they had the wrong phone number in the system and that they couldnt deliver it for another week!!!!!!
I am so extremely furious with this company. I am letting everyone know first hand that on 2 seperate occations this company goofed up big time. I would advise everyone to purchase your furniture elsewhere.
You know the saying, You cant judge a book by its cover...Well in this case you certainly can. Those BOB commercials are a joke they look cheap and he comes off like a weasle. The sales people, customer service and their 3rd party companies that do the moving are the same!!!!
Bob's Furniture is only 1/2 step up from IKEA's disposable furniture. You get what you pay for and there is a reason you can get an entire bedroom 8 piece bedroom set for under $900. It's shoddy workmanship that builds inferior products. REAL furniture costs a lot of money, but LASTS!!! Hard-wood, solidly built furniture is an investment. However, we all don't have that money, so Bob gives is another way to go. Granted, it's a crappy way to go, but if that's all you can afford...Don't go complaining!
MY BOB STORY. WE LIKED THE STORE AND SALES PEOPLE.
THE PEOPLE WHO DELIVERED MY FURNITURE DELIVERED THE WRONG TABLE. SO BOB HAD TO RE-DELIVER THE TABLE AT THEIR EXPENSE. HOWEVER WE HAD NO TABLE TO EAT ON FOR ONE WEEK.
OUR HUTCH HAS NO HARDWARE FOR THE SHELVES AND ONE OF THE LIGHT BULBS IS BURNT OUT.
THEY ALSO SCRATCHED THE HUTCH AND TRIED TO HIDE IT BY PLACING THE HUTCH TOO CLOSE TO THE EDGE. i TOLD THE STORE & THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL ME RIGHT BACK. THEY NEVER DID.
I DO NOW FEEL THAT BOB IS A JERK.
Bob' Discount Junk Furniture and Discount Service as well.
I sent 4 New Chairs back to Bob because they each were defective. I was told once the chairs were picked up by their drivers I would get credit to my CC. Guess what that didn't happen either. Trouble with Bob's junk is that they don't Store any furniture onsite unless you pick through his PIT so if you choose new pieces to be delivered it is not the pieces you looked at.All the bad things you heard are true.Make sure you go to the store you bought the junk from and have them print out a reciept for returned merchandise. Make sure you call their discount Customer Service Department to make sure you get your proper credit. Anyone want a Bobinizer Rocker recliner Springfield,Ma..

I had made a purchase at Bobs, for $4600, and the delivery was EXPENSIVE. So my 14 year old son called asking for a price and gave the sales person my account info, well guess what??? They added the piece that my son had called about without my permission. Needless to say, I canceled my order and made my purchase at the Furniture Warehouse, http://www.thefurniturewarehouse.com/index.php who had the exact furniture that Bob's have but at only $50.00 for delivery. I purchased 2 bedroom sets and a dinning set and only paid $50.00 for delivery, I saved over $500.00. Plus, I have Bob's commercials too, they are just stupid and all of his "Bobisms"

Furniture is not as shown in showroom. The dresser they delivered had ugly bowed spruce beams holding the mirror, mounted at the edge of the mirror, where they are very visible. The one in the store had pine beams that matched the rest of the dresser, and were mounted recessed, so that they are not visible from front. The delivery people damage furniture and/or property. On the second delivery, they sent a third person whose main purpose was to push and intimidate me in to accepting their defective furniture. The furniture they deliver at first is grossly defective and damaged. On the second attempt, they bring something that looks like a customer reject, with numerous defects, but it is not as bad as the first set. The first set had wood with clearly visible fungus rot, and ucured wood which was leaking resin. Leaking resin is due to badly cured wood, and is a problem that will continue for many years, yet they tried telling me that their technician was come and wipe it off, and all would be well! The 2nd. set had defects which had been covered up, a rear panel which was so poorly mounted that it was visible from the front, and many other defects. The repair man they sent denied all defects, but said he would do what he could. He colored over the wood, and then covered everything with a thick coating of laquer, so the furniture now looks like 20 year old fraternity furniture. He also got laquer sprayed on my carpeting, which BOB's denied responsibility for because I didn't call it in within 3 days! Their warranty is useless, because they play the game of saying it's a factory defect, and give you another number to call, and when you call them, they say it's the store's problem. So you end up calling the two numbers back-and-forth, until you get sick of dealing with them and give up. Their money-back warranty is only good for 3 days after you pay, not for 3 days after you get the furniture. And they make sure not to deliver the furniture until at least 3 days after you paid for it!
Instead of spending the money on furniture and service, they put it all in to advertising, and sponsoring the Patriots!
People that defend these crooks either work for Bob's or are complete idiots! I am sitting in this piece or crap sectional and sitting on a pretty good angle. My back is killing me and I am a bodybuilder! The cushions sagged within 3 weeks. The only thing Bob's is doing for the community is getting Chiropractor's rich! Don't buy from these guys or you will be blogging like I am. This sectional was not that cheap either!!!! So shop before you buy. I was at many stores, but Bob's couch was so comfortable until I got one in my house!!!! Think the furniture is different in the store, but cannot be positive. Just seems odd because it is so crappy!!
Bob's discount furniture is the worst store period.
Want to get disappointed ? Try Bobs.
SA's (service agreements) and/or MA's (maintenance agreements) are the most profitable items to be sold in a retail store. The cost of such drops right to the bottom line of the company's P&L. Sears has always been successful at selling MAs, they cover free yearly service and a free box of suds. But the cost goes up every year until it becomes cheaper ("less expensive" as retailers call it) to purchase a new appliance, and the service technicians are pushy about selling you more Sears suds. Retailers selling SAs and/or MAs often have contests rewarding associates who sell the most. Very often these agreements parallel the manufacturer's warranty; they do not begin when the warranty ends. So a 2-year agreement may only be good for 1 year if the warranty is good for 1 year. I benefited once from a MA from Service Merchandise; they replaced a broken watch. Having worked for SM, I was the one who kept the MA scorecard and led the MA rallies!
At their demise, the ONLY profit the company was making was on the sale of MAs!
I made the mistake of buying a dining room set from Bobs, horrible!it took four deliveries just to get the original set after all the damage.I put a tablecloth on the table for christmas and when I took it off the finish on the table was all discolored, the sideboard was turning white on the top and the top of one of the chairs had a crack in the back. I went thru three tables with them and finally fought with them to get my money back. i will never buy a thing from that store again and I will tell anyone who is even thinking of it to stay far away from them. that was the worst furniture expierence I have every had and I have furnished a whole house.
I bought a living room set from Bob's Sofa & Loveseat. It was deliveered Decemer 17, 08. By January 17, 08 it had started to fray. I called customer service and was on hold for 25 minutes could not get through to anyone I called again LAter that afternoon. Onhold for 45 minutes this went on for two weeks. I finally called the store the girl said she would e-mail customer service and have them call me back after waiting for the call for a week I called the store again. Again the same thing happened I waited again for a week and called the store again. Same thing and a promise they would make sure they called. Thye did nit call. I finally called and waited on hold for over an hour until I finally got someone. Thye are suppossed to come today March 25th, 2008. One of the cushions is now completley ripped down one said and the other cushions are fraying. I think Bob's customer service is a disgrace. one hour hold times is totally unacceptable. I would not buy from Bob's again. My furniture arrived damaged which I told the guy and I had to wait 3 months to have someone come and look at it. Hopefully they show up today. If not I am going to drive the sofa to the store. As far as my sales person in the store she was very nice and not pushy. It was her first week there and she couldn't have been nicer. Its too bad the experience had to work out so bad. Perhaps Bob should start working on his customer service issues. I feel he has a big problem in that department. Customer service is what keeps customers coming back! Bob's customer services department and long hold times are driving customers away.
Bob is the biggest crook in the whole world. I ordered living room set, the fairfax, in the showroom it was beautiful and marshmallowy, when I got it it was cheap and uncomfortable, I have written to them, called them, they don't care at all! it is so cheap! If you see something in the showroom, and make your purchase based on that, you should get the exact same product! I will be calling the BBB, and I will be causing a scene about this if it isn't handled, I am so sick of all the low lives that work there giving me the run around. I am sick of cleaning up the green packing material all over the place 8 months later because the couch was covered in it! Basically, don't buy Bob's furniture, it is crap, even if it feels and looks nice in the showroom.... they will send you cardboard instead. I hate you Bob, I f*cking hate you.
Oh, and "bob's babe" get a real job, for someone who doesn't scam to make money and then leave you fighting with service people and techs. Get a real job lady.
Hello
Of course bob sucks all the furniture he sells is truly shit and the salespeople must push it...I was employed by Bobs as a saleperson and I know the inside story...
1. salespeople are only paid on straight commission 5% of the sale this is also on the delivery charges..but not on the tax.. no sale no pay, and you must work every up, for it could be 1 hour till you talk to another customer, and quite a few rules as to
talking to customers whose cust etc, all to screw the poor salesperson out of the sale...the house always wins but never the salesperson, this explains the pushiness....
2.the "goof" pays a 20% commission to the salesperson so if you bought a living room for 999, the commission is $50,less taxes to the salesperson, the "goof" is $99 and it pays another $20 to the salesperson sand it costs bob $15 to buy it from guardsman...
3.people want cheap furniture, and they play games with the sale help,we are only human and we have families also...if you want to stop this tell bob that this is unfair and to pay the salesman a salary, or pool the commissions from the store...
In the store I worked in an average Sat would pull between $125-150 thousand and Sundays were even better...this is a tremendous money making machine and you really cant picture it for it is compartmentalized and privatly owned...Apax partners and Bob Kaufman and his uncle.I hope I can help you one day for it is a truly suck ass way of treating the public and your employees.Since he talks about being FAIR be upfront, and pay your salaries and taxes instead of hiding behind lawyers and different holding companies..
Rustic Living Room Furniture sets augment the overall beauty of any room. With various room decoration items and gadgets flooding the market, it may sometimes be very confusing as what furniture’s to select for your living rooms - furniture’s which suit your tastes, match your room's environment and of course meet your budget! However, rustic furniture sets have an all-time appeal because of their simple yet versatile designs and light-weight (can easily be shifted from one room to other). http://rustic-living-room-furniture.blogspot.com
AGREED! BOBS SUKS! & SELLS CRAP!
My Sons draw broke & Bob's sent out a technician. He could not fix. So they deemed it that we could get a replacement. To bad the replacement doesn't match because they don't make what we had. OK i can understand that.
We got to store to pick another. $60 bucks more WHY??? They we get told by the X car sales LIAR to toss the old one. We get to pickup center & they won't let us have the new one till we bring the od one in. i said salesman told us to toss it. DUH run by a bunch of X cons! no wait x-cons might be better!
No one who's financially savvy would ever utter the words :
"So as you could imagine, we bought a fair amount of furniture from Bob and since the "Goof Proof" was only an extra $200, we figured why the hell not. "
I wouldn't use that furniture if they sent it to my house for free.
We Bought a Sleeper Sofa from Bobs several years back. It was nothing like the Jennifer convertible I also had. Bobs Sleeper Sofa broke(the springs started pulling out of the frame) within 1 year. Thier Technician said it couldn't be fixed. So much for standing up behind your warranty.
Bob sells cheap junk. Buy smart, buy American from now on.
If you are totally fed up of your mobili per ufficio (office furniture) and wish to rejuvenate your office interiors, then it is time for you to log in to the website http://www.momi.it. Almost all types of furniture solutions are available with Momi and as soon as you submit your order with Momi, your furniture requirement would be taken care of at the earliest.
HELLO people...its DISCOUNT furniture...if you want perfect, spend big bucks!!!!!!!! Seam seperations.....indeed not a Goof Proof issue, but, providing the furniture is still at the original address, Bob's will send out a "best effort" service for as long as you have the furniture. Yes, there are horror stories, but there are many, many, many, satisfied customers too!
Well, I always ignore when people bad mouth any type of store online. It makes people sound bitter and unreasonable. However, I just purchased a love seat and couch from Bob's, my wife and I absolutely loved it and loved the price. I am sad to say I had the couch for 3 days and the frame broke on the left side of the couch. I am shocked!! I called the customer service line, but they are closed today. I will call tomorrow and see what they tell me. After looking at the wood piece that broke, i noticed it is really crappy wood. It is pressed wood, he should say that in his commercials, instead of selling his "high quality wood" I am disappointed, but lets see how good his customer service is and see if they make it right. Had I known it was pressed wood, I would not have purchased the couch. I told that to the salesman, and he even said at the time of sale it was high quality wood etc etc... I dealt with some shady people in my day and should of known better to purchase from this store. You get what you pay for, you pay bargain furniture prices, you are going to get bargain furniture. I recommend looking elsewhere.
Well, I contacted Bob's customer service, they are shipping me a new sofa by this thursday and taking the old one away. I was kind of impressed, no questions asked they are just swapping the old with the new. I can not complain there. HOWEVER THE ONLY REASON THEY ARE DOING THIS IS BECAUSE IT HAPPENED 3 DAYS AFTER SHIPMENT! If it happened on the 4th day it sounded like I would have been screwed. If you go to buy furniture there, make sure you find out what happens on that 4th day. I don't think they will be honest with you. I did feel like crap after the purchase, the sales guy that was so nice to us and told us to call if we ever had a problem etc.. .don't hesitate to call, gave us his "personal cell" etc etc... told me there was nothing he could do call customer service when this all happened. Well if that is the case, then don't flat out lie to me and tell me that you will help every step of the way to "make our lives easier". Am I bitter, YES. But glad at least they are sending a new couch. The only thing I am going to do is rebuild with higher quality wood and the couch should be fine. But a person should not have to do that. So, after all this rambling.... SAVE UP YOUR MONEY AND GET A HIGH QUALITY NICELY BUILT PIECE OF FURNITURE SOMEWHERE ELSE. I actually have gotten walmart and target furniture that i have been more impressed with.
I will be call channel 5 new. for the legs of my sofa and if court then its court
Bought a bedroom set from Bob and it's damn nice. Also bought the BOB O PEDIC mattress and I sleep like a baby in Bob's arms. No problem with Bob's for me.
i feel like i'm only at the beginning of what is bound to become BOBS HELL.
we bought a king size bob-o-pedic AND the 'goof proof' mattress protector exactly a month ago. we then had an unfortunate sick kid accident on it after having it for less than 2 weeks - but no worries, right?
the salesperson assured us that if the mattress protector was on, it was "waterproof" and would "protect the mattress from any damage" - his exact words were "so use it and abuse it" - uh. not even close.
in the time it took me to rush my daughter to the bathroom, and for my husband to grab the cleaning supplies, it had already soaked through the sheet, through the protector, and straight through to the memory foam, leaving a giant, dirty wet spot.
we soaked it up as best we could - put everything in the laundry and didn't sleep on the bed that night of course.
in the morning, when i called the bob's customer service line, it took 20 minutes for the girl to take my information. she was extremely suspicious and judgmental and continued making me repeat my story like some sort of interrogation. at the end of the call she told me i needed to call guardsman and explain all of the same information again!
guardsman, rather than take my info and help, hastily got all the basics and told me i had to complete a form, send it back in, and wait for their "determination". when i asked how long that would take, i was told "well, we review claims every day. so whenever you get it back in." when i asked what the process was after they review my form - whather it was cleaning... replacement... etc. i was told "it's whatever we determine."
i received the form via email, sent it back the same day, and it's now been 14 days and i've heard nothing (the form said i'd hear back within 10 days.)
i called guardsman today (wed.) and they said "because of the july 4th holiday we're backed up. call again friday."
i called the 1800 bobs number and the associate's exact words were "we don't deal with customer caused problems"
i went to call the bobs store where i purchased it - and they don't open for another half an hour.
1 month in and i'm already insane about the crappy bob's experience!
(ps. $1700 is not "cheap" so we certainly deserve better than the run around on a 2 week old product!)
oh.
my.
god.
in follow-up to my post above (kid vomit) i just spent TWO HOURS being bounced back and forth between bob's and guardsman only to eventually be told that GUARDSMAN DOESN'T HANDLE MATTRESS CLAIMS ANYMORE - AND HASN'T SINCE 2006!!!!!
the warranty company i was transferred to (Protect A Bed) tells me that i waited too long to report (dont get me started on my reply) and that they will send a new protector out - i will need to mail the old one back for TESTING - and if it proves defective - then they will reimburse up to $100 for cleaning the mattress.
WHAT?!?!??!
i'm a calm and rational woman - and this has turned me into a crazy lady.
They lost me AS A CUSTOMER. I learned my lesson. Three hundred dollars for a plan they don't even cover. Sad to hear that people out there expect to get a poor piece of furniture from Bobs. I believe it's discount furniture, not crappy furniture. Now I know.
