Net Worth Update for End of May 2008 - Done with CFA edition!

This past weekend was the CFA exam. After another brutal 6 hour session I am done and done. I have no idea if I passed or failed, but I am glad to be completely done for now (though it would be niec to go 3-for-3). With that, on to the belated net worth update.

It was another good month for the FSA family. Despite the agonozing week of cramming for CFA, the past month saw an increase in our net worth of 23% to a grand total of $24,088.

Assets were up 138 bps due to a large reimbursement from our Flexible Spending Account for my wife's braces. We were also stimulated and stuck to our target allocation which resulted in a bump in our Roth IRAs and some debt paydown. The one wrinkle here is that we used part of the money to donate to the china relief effort and we also had to pay some repairs for two of our major appliances (dishwasher and refrigerator). This was almost $600 for all three unexpected expenses. The reimbursement was used to replenish our emergency fund and we had some positive price action from our retirement accounts and the kids 529 plan. Another solid month overall.

Liabilities ticked down a meager 13 bps as appliance repairs and more eating out was tacked on the credit card to be paid off with our normal monthly bills. Our highest interest debt did decline 734 bps which is a 5.5% return on our money risk-free. We will be accelerating much of that as we have any extra left over in our budget. The eating out was due to having some family members over for memorial day weekend as well as just eating out for pure convenience sake as the test got closer. No more of that for a while.

By the end of June, I expect to be getting a raise from work. While I'm not expecting much more than 3% (management has been trying to manage expectations around that), anything else above that would be a very nice surprise. My ideal number would be 7.43% because that would take my base salary up to a nice round number. Who knows, maybe I'll be getting nothing, we'll have to see.
